The trail map images provided on these web pages (GIF format, 256 colors) are made with high enough resolution to allow the labeling to be clearly read for road names, etc. In most cases, the size of these images are much larger than most computer displays can display 'all at once'.
Therefore, the HTML code has been modified to shrink the image as displayed on the web page, so it will display properly on web browsers if the computer display resolution is 800 x 600 or higher. If the page is printed, the resulting map may not be detailed enough to read. However, the full-size file is transferred with the web page.
If you right-click on the image, you have the option to save it to your computer, in a location of your choice, then open it in an image editing program, where you can print it with the same clarity as the original image.
Unfortunately, the Paint program that comes with Microsoft Windows will open and display these images, but they will not be able to print them on a single page. You will need a image editor that can scale these images for printing, so they can be made to fit the printed page. Examples of such programs are Adobe PhotoDeluxe, Corel PrintHouse, or Jasc PaintShop Pro. If you have a scanner or digital camera, you almost certainly have a program that came with the hardware that can do this.
